A must-see for world history buffs – The Daedalic Kore

Tourists have been thrilled by Santorini’s reappearance as one of the top places for sea and sport tourism across the globe. The visitors can take in breathtaking Aegean view through Fira and Oia in addition to the impressive new run routes, the open water swimming trail, Imerovigli and Akrotiri. Professional and amateur swimmers as well as runners from countries such as the U.S.A. and Brazil gathered in Santorini during September. Culture was also in the spotlight , with the Daedalic Core of Thira to be showcased during the event.

Sofia Zacharaki was the Deputy Minister for Tourism. The Minister was Ms. Sofia Kitsou, Head of Culture and Deputy Mayor of Thira was a visitor to the Daedalic Central of Thira. This unique example of Greek sculpture, which dates to the beginning of the century BC it was discovered from Charalambos Sigalas (Thiraean archaeologist) when he was working on rescue excavations at the burial ground of Thira. The Kore is the main attraction in the Archaeological Museum of Thira. Today, everyone is able to view the archaic Kore.

The deputy Minister of Tourism Ms. Sofia Zacharaki, had the pleasure of being in Santorini in September to celebrate the revival of the iconic sports tourism event, that is the Santorini Experience. This event is being established as a significant sporting event which brings together sport and culture. It has many participant athletes from around the world. It was also possible for participants to visit Naxian white marble. Naxian white marble that is huge in size.

It was wonderful to be able to work with it to be a pleasure for the Ministry of Tourism to grant patronage to Santorini Experience. This event illustrates how popular tourist destinations are able to diversify their offerings and provide the best options to tourists. Because they’re a reference destination to Greece it is in line with our mission to promote events that promote the sport and cultural tourism of Greece.

Antonios Sigalas, the Mayor of Thira said that Greece and Greece with this year’s record-breaking tourism performance proved that they’re capable of not only overcoming the global crisis, but surpassing all expectations. “The most likely scenario is that tourism growth will be sustainable, balanced and quality. Institutions like the Santorini experiences play an important part in this.

It was a great surprise to learn that the Half Marathon is named after the Daedalic Heart of Thira. It was an honor for us to go along with Madame. Zacharaki (Deputy Minister of Tourism) for a visit to the Santorini Archaeological Museum. The municipality of Thira is adamant in tourism but however, they also place a lot of emphasis on culture and sports. It is apparent in their investment program which, for the second time, been supported by the Ministry of Culture. This support will allow the museum to continue to be one of Thira’s most visited tourist destinations.


The conclusion of this piece can be said to mean the fact that Greece and Greeks have shown they can be capable of weathering global crisis and even exceeding their expectations. It is positive news to Greece’s future tourism that is geared towards being environmentally sustainable, balanced, and of high quality.
